It's been a long time coming, but I finally embraced meditation whole-heartedly, thanks to an app called Headspace. I heard about it through Tim Ferriss and I was skeptical at first. Do I really need an app to help me find calm and relaxation? Yes, yes I do.
After a first few sessions of guided meditation, I began to realize why so many have embraced this form of mindfulness. It's incredibly important to manage the clutter in our minds, to calm the voices, to stiff-arm the anxiety. Thanks to the first few months I've gotten into meditation, I feel calmer and more at peace than ever before. Well, that could also relate to my fantastic freelance life and no longer doing the ol' 9-to-5.
At times, meditation can be frustrating because my body isn't relaxed and I can't quiet the voices in my head. But every session I'm learning to better find that relaxation, to focus more closely on the app's instructions. It isn't easy. Nor should it be. We have so many distractions pulling at our mind; the last thing our mind wants to do is stay still.
If you feel anxious or muddled, meditation could be an ideal method to clear the clutter. It might be frustrating and difficult at first, but stick with it. Your body and brain will thank you later.
